About Image Compression
Image compression is essential for faster websites, smaller downloads, and reduced storage costs. Our tool uses Canvas API native encoding combined with custom quality parameters to achieve optimal file sizes for web, email, and social media use.
JPEG Compression
JPEG uses lossy compression based on the discrete cosine transform (DCT). At quality 80-85%, the visual difference is nearly imperceptible while file size drops 60-70%. For web use, quality 75-85% is the standard recommendation.
PNG Compression
PNG uses lossless compression, so re-saving a PNG in the browser usually makes only a small difference. The tool does not reduce colours. For a much smaller file, save photos as JPEG or WebP; keep PNG for logos, icons and screenshots where every pixel matters.
WebP Compression
Google's WebP format outperforms both JPEG and PNG in compression efficiency. It supports both lossy and lossless modes, transparency, and animation. WebP images are typically 25-35% smaller than comparable JPEGs.
